St. Thomas

 

St. Thomas is the second largest of the Virgin Islands with a population of about 51,181 residents.  St. Thomas is 13 miles long and 4 miles wide, with its highest point being Crown Mountain at 1,556 feet.  St. Thomas is a very mountainous island.  St. Thomas offers stunning vistas in almost every direction. Christopher Columbus is credited with “discovering” St. Thomas during his second voyage to the New World in 1493. 

 

The United States flag was hoisted in the three “Virgin Islands of America” on the March 31, 1917, a day in which we call “Transfer Day”.  The United States bought the Danish West Indies for $25 million dollars, currently known as the United States Virgin Islands.

 

St, Thomas moved into the 21st century maintaining its prominence as one of the Caribbean’s top vacation destinations. Charlotte Amalie, the capital of St. Thomas is a favorite cruise ship port of call.  Charlotte Amalie is one of the most beautiful harbors in the world and the most visited port in the Caribbean.  Elegant dining, exciting nightlife and world-class duty free shopping are abundant in Charlotte Amalie.  The city’s reputation as the shopping mecca of the Caribbean draws visitors from all over the region and around the world.  St. Thomas is also well known for its gulf course, world-class yachting and sports fishing.
